Lowering Auto Insurance and Property Taxes:

Detroit residents face some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country, placing an unfair burden on working families and small businesses. I am committed to advocating for reforms to MI’s Auto No-fault law that ensure fair pricing, eliminate predatory practices, and expand access to affordable coverage. By working with State Lawmakers, Insurance Providers, my colleagues on City Council and the Mayor, we can push for rate reductions that reflect true risk and not outdated redlining tactics.

Property taxes in Detroit also remain disproportionately high, discouraging homeownership and business investment. I will fight for tax relief policies that protect long-term residents, attract new homeowners, and incentivize small businesses. Through targeted tax abatements, reassessments, and relief programs, we can make Detroit a more affordable place to live and work.

Integrating Community Violence Interrupters into the Detroit Police Department:

Public safety is a top priority, and reducing crime requires more than just traditional policing. I support the formal integration of community violence interruption strategies into the Detroit Police Department to address conflicts before they escalate into violence.  Often from the neighborhoods they serve, these organizations can mediate disputes, build trust, and provide crucial intervention services.

By expanding partnerships between law enforcement and community-based organizations, we can reduce violence, improve police-community relations, and create a safer Detroit. I will advocate for funding, training, and policies that ensure violence interrupters are an essential part of our city’s public safety strategy.

Increasing Economic Activity and Job Creation:

Detroit’s economic revival must be inclusive, ensuring that residents have access to good-paying jobs and opportunities to start and grow businesses. I will push for policies that support local entrepreneurs, attract investment, and provide workforce training programs aligned with emerging industries.

By streamlining business licensing, expanding access to capital, and fostering public-private partnerships, we can strengthen Detroit’s economy. I also support infrastructure investments that create jobs and improve our city’s competitiveness, from upgrading roads and transit to expanding broadband access. My goal is to build a thriving economy where every Detroiter has a pathway to prosperity.
